Originally, I struggled to get into this story... I was listening to it and that format just did not work for me. So I got on the list for the ebook and waited.
In between I read The Love Songs of WEB Dubois and I think that was the perfect book to prepare me to settle in to tread All That She Carried. They fit well together and the change in format to reading with my eyes worked much better with this book. There are images to see that make the reading more powerful.
I do very much recommend!

this book really set the tone for me for what I will now expect or at least hope for when I read a work that engages with archival material. sensitively and compassionately told and researched, this book explores the legacy of Ashley's sack and the people and culture it exists in. this book taught me new things about my home state and moved me emotionally. I've never read anything quite like this, and I really hope to read more.
