"Are you really a Rebel? Or just a Traitor to the Throne?"

I went into Traitor with really high expectations, having loved Rebel of the Sands last year, and they were definitely met. Whilst the setting for Traitor is different - most of the book is spent in the palace with Amani - it still managed to recapture the same feel that Rebel had.

It was really interesting to see the Rebellion from inside the Palace, to look at the other sides point of view and to join Amani as she struggled to decide whether or not Ahmed really had what it took to be Sultan, and whether or not the Rebellion was going to be successful.

The new characters in the book were really interesting, as where the old ones that returned for the sequel. I would have loved to see Jin and Shazad around more, but their absence for a lot of the story made a lot of sense, and only made their return that much better!

Traitor to the Throne is a definite 5 stars for me, the same as Rebel, so I can only hope that the final book in the series is just as good as the first two!

The story itself is still good but not quite the same vibes that had me hanging on like the first one. Off to the last!

OH MY GOD AMAZING. I’ve fallen in love with this series once more, the characters are all so well written and lovable and their dynamics just filled me with so much serotonin. Ahmed, Rahim, Sam, they all have my heart and I enjoyed getting to know these characters in this story. Amani was bad ass as always and Jin was perfect as I remembered him to be. I loved the plot twists, it took me by surprise and the end was completely soul crushing MISS HAMILTON WHAT WAS THE REASON !? court politics were super enjoyable and I really like seeing the tension between Amani and two specific characters, if you know you know, (not romantically) and I’ll look forward to seeing how it’s going to play out in the third book.

As for the writing the pacing was great, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time… the only thing I didn’t really like is how much abundant info dumping there was… especially in the beginning. It was convenient for me because it’s been 5 years since I last picked up the first book but even so it got a bit tedious after a while even if it was useful for me to remember so I can only imagine what it would be like had I read them back to back.

Overall though SOLID second instalment to this series, I cannot wait to read the next one

I was so excited for this sequel and I was not disappointed. Amani continues to be a wonderful main character and while I was concerned I'd grow bored with this story
Spoileronce she got kidnapped and her powers got muted
she continued to be badass and smart. I think some of the elements of this story were predictable but not everything was and it definitely felt like the story was moving forward
Spoilereven with Amani separated from the rest of the rebellion for most of it
. The romance took a backseat to Amani's personal story and her own deeper understanding of her country, the Sultan, and the rebellion she's fighting for. Certain minor characters both old and new got some great development. Particularly
Spoilerher cousin who I was bored and annoyed with in the first book, but who turned into a really interesting character
. I'm really bummed that I'll have to wait for the next one as I'm excited to see where the story goes from here.
