"how well i knew the light before!
i could not see it now.
't is dying, i am doing; but
i'm not afraid to know."

TE AMO EMILY DICKINSON si hubiéramos nacido en el mismo siglo habríamos sido almas gemelas, nunca me sentí tan conectada con las palabras de alguien como con las suyas.

Some of my highlights :

“VI.

If I can stop one heart from breaking,

I shall not live in vain;

If I can ease one life the aching,

Or cool one pain,

Or help one fainting robin

Unto his nest again,

I shall not live in vain.  ❦”

“XXII.

I had no time to hate, because

The grave would hinder me,

And life was not so ample I

Could finish enmity.

Nor had I time to love; but since

Some industry must be,

The little toil of love, I thought,

Was large enough for me.  ❦”

“VI.

If you were coming in the fall,

I'd brush the summer by

With half a smile and half a spurn,

As housewives do a fly.

If I could see you in a year,

I'd wind the months in balls,

And put them each in separate drawers,

Until their time befalls.

If only centuries delayed,

I'd count them on my hand,

Subtracting till my fingers dropped

Into Van Diemen's land.

If certain, when this life was out,

That yours and mine should be,

I'd toss it yonder like a rind,

And taste eternity.

But now, all ignorant of the length

Of time's uncertain wing,

It goads me, like the goblin bee,

That will not state its sting.  ❦”

Poems

This is the first I have read anything by Emily Dickinson and loved it. This is a great book to sit with a loved one and share which poems are each others favorites.

This was just not really my cup of tea, maybe I'll read some other poems by her in the future but for the moment I'm going to try other poets.
