This book was very entertaining at first and u really really liked it, but as it continued on I started to dislike it soooo much.
Damien really pissed me off majority of the book. He had no character development really at all. I hated how Dream never stood up for herself when it came to him, she always backed down so easily. I also didn’t like the fact that he made her keep a baby she didn’t want.
Honestly I preferred Dayna and Smoke storyline.
I probably would’ve given this book 1 or 2 stars if not for Dayana storyline.

The author did the POVs perfectly. I laughed more than I thought and it was just an overall good read. My second book into Urban Fiction I’m hooked.

For an urban fiction book the book was good. I haven’t read urban fiction in probably 10 years so it was nostalgic in a way and interesting to read modern urban fiction that being said this story was dragged out to me. I think Smoke & Dayan’s story should’ve just been a second book. I loved their story line and found them entertaining and wish we could’ve dove deeper in with them and had more time to build up their connections and linger in the slow burn of him falling in love after the death of his wife. Their relationship moved too fast and it was forced sort of on Dayana’s end not really being patient but at the same time this book was already too long to add that level of relationship building. That’s why I think they needed their own book. They were also the most likable characters in the book. Demon & Dreams story was the opposite where Dayana & smokes went to fast theirs went to slow. They dragged out Demons issues as denial of love too far. They could’ve chopped about 200 pages of him denying his love her crying about it and then them effing to put a bandaid on the issues. That cycle drug on too long and then at certain points it was just dumb and obvious he said certain messed up things to hurt Dreams feelings but it was so obvious I’m like why is she even getting upset and believing his nonsense? I was also annoyed how the theme of him loving / forgiving his mother was a big theme in the book like she sold him, I don’t know why anyone was upset when he didn’t care for her. Trying to force him into empathy for her and in the end the alluded that he did love her and I’m like normalize not being gaslit into loving your abuser. Ultimately Dream was a deeply insecure character who became really annoying at times. Like she was cool but the constant arguing back in forth grew tired quick for me. Also the ignored male domestic violence. Dream kept putting her hands on Demon and I actually ha f a problem with it. Especially because he’d been abused it the last. They acknowledged it in the beginning she said she wouldn’t do it again but then did it serval more times. That’s a theme constant in urban fiction it’s not cute to me when the women can’t keep their hands to themselves idc what he said it’s not cute tone slapping all on this man. I hated that. Demon ultimately he was a deeply traumatized person but he had a lot of character growth which I appreciated. I hated the way he talks to her in the book I literally could never and would never put up with the way he spoke to Dream in this book and they just normalized it. It made it hard to connect with the Demon character on a romantic I want him to be my book boyfriend level. But in the end I thought he was cool and grew a lot and I was proud of him though it was an annoyingly drawn out journey. I feel like the dual focus on the book villains took away from them being executed to their fullest potential. They were kind of cliche and  predictable. I now this review sounds like I might not have enjoyed it but surprisingly I did it was a decent read I don’t think you’d be disappointed if you read it but my apologies to say it was a bit over hyped for me.
