Always a fan of a time travel story. Greatly enjoyed these characters.

Time travel! So enjoyed this!

Enjoyed it! "Technical" book (how technical can fake science/witchcraft really be?) that still had a nice human element. Plenty of plot twists

Neal Stephenson crossed with A Discovery of Witches and a dash of Terry Pratchett.

I zoomed through it but it could have done with greater character development, and there were ideas I would have liked to have seen explored further.

I wanted to give this book 3 1/2 stars but you can't do that in Goodreads. But I could not go as far as 4 stars. It's not that it's a bad book. It's good. But it is LONG. And not just in page number... There are times where the excess information was just a tad too much. I love time travel stories. And this one has tons of good stuff : witches, vikings, science stuff, a bad guy or two, a love story that is not too overbearing, etc... This story also comes at you in all sorts of different ways like e-mail exchanges, diaries, texts, reports and even, at one point, a Viking song/poem.... But it's not for everybody. If you love time travel and you are patient, you love science information, you'll love this. If you are looking for a quick thriller, this is not it.

This was a little uneven, but I liked the descriptions of contemporary folks finding themselves in the past and vice versa. The audiobook narrators weren’t always what I would have chosen, and that lessened my enjoyment a bit. It’s also a little inconsistent with time travel, but that’s fairly common.

A fun romp through an exhaustively imagined thought experiment of what would happen if time travel and magic were actually possible. Working with a co-author expands Neal Stephenson's normal nerdery in a refreshing way. However, you definitely have to be a history/speculative fiction/worldbuilding geek to appreciate it. Plot and character are not the main focus and while it's a short Stephenson book, it's a very long regular book.
