Decent but too much moralising

While DODO is an enjoyable tale that is told from many perspectives as is increasingly common with the first author's books it is full of American moralising, conspiracy theiries, and ’punishment of ’ evil’ characters and rewards to ’good’ characters.

This book was really hit or miss with me. There were some points I loved and some that I could have done without. The biggest issue for me was too many different types of narratives in the book. There is the story from Stokes, entries from Tristan, diary entries from Rebecca, memos and posts from ODIN. It all got to be too much for me. Also the book goes off on too many side stories for too long. They try to hide the book and then that doesn’t work and they have to convince the businessman not to invest in the company and then they have to build the witch network and then they’re building the chronotron. All of it in one book was a little much. I would have preferred this book be smaller, ending perhaps when they are able to secure the book and then everything after that to be a sequel.

On the plus side, this book is quite original and fun in parts. I liked the Rebecca and Tristan characters and the idea of witches mixing with sci fi elements. I just wanted a more focused and shorter story with less perspectives and chatter.

So well done. Especially on audio with all of the different characters and voices.

Time travel
Witches
Magic
Physics and parallel universes
Quirky sub plots
Many laugh out loud moments

For fans of: ready player one, dark matter, discovery of witches, mixed with humour (where’d you go Bernadette?)

Enjoyed every second of it. Hope there’s a sequel.

Wow, what a journey! Where this books starts versus where it ends is so wild! I loved it- the science of why magic stopped, the adventures, and the character development were all well-researched and thoughtfully fully plotted by this author duo. A super fun book for spy novel lovers and witchy readers alike!
