Malibu Rising surprised me. I almost didn’t read the book because on the surface it didn’t look interesting, but I’m so glad I gave the book some time. The characters are lovable and for many relatable. The ending wraps up in one big whirl, but also in such a meaningful way.

absolutely loved this book. no notes for miss TJR. the ending was just so rewarding and i’m so proud of the main cast of characters. the concept is also really cool, i thought it was a great way to tell the story of a family.

I enjoyed this book. It's kind of the peak of this genre -- a reflective, slice-of-life family drama.

I think that the way the book was structured was a spark of simple genius -- a rotating series of real time point of view vignettes from a ton of characters. This is really about how all those characters interact and change.

It made me think about myself and my own life, and hey, isn't that the point of fiction in general?

This books is such a ride! Like all of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books it reads like a juicy tabloid story mixed with the heartbreaking realness of life. I just love how each book of hers feels like an new and exiting way to read a story.

TJR is excellent in writing compelling and real characters that you feel so deeply for. For me the my favorite aspect were the relationships between the four kids. I rooted for them to stand up for themselves, to realize that they are worthy of love. Ugh, how many times I screamed while reading because yet another person hurt them.

I only gave this four stars because over all this book had less of an impact on me that I had hoped. Mostly because there were too many pov’s in the second half of this book. It kind of dragged me out of the main story line.
I also felt like the ending was a bit underwhelming. I expected a bigger twist somehow (even though there were many twists during this whole book I GASPED many times). But in true TJR fashion I expected something big (bigger than what we got) for the ending.

But to not end on a negative note. I LOVED the tie in with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Even though Mick is a colossal dickhead. I hope in future books we get to see more of these kinds of connections!
