Engagingly written, some impressive diagrams and maps, and loads of references (both primary and secondary). It's a huge task to fit eight centuries of a town's history into one book, but I was impressed by the way Chandler handled the task: he chose illustrative examples and slices of history and largely avoided the already well-covered topic of the Cathedral.
