Excellent collection - not too scary for me and deliciously odd!!

some of these shorts are so bizzare that I definitely do feel like a little girl again while reading them - but not necessarily in a good way. I can't shake this nagging feeling that there are a. themes going over my head or b. the stories are what they are at face value, no metaphors. I'm leaning towards a.; what the hell is "Moveable Beast" or "Prismatica" about, then? Seeking literary assistance with these ones. I might stick to my blaringly obvious dystopian motifs. Honestly barely enjoy this even though its brimming with my favorite authors.

its taking me a very long time to read.

nobody told me it was an anthology, and even if some stories were very interesting, anthologies aren't my thing

I've had this book lying on my shelf for years now, and I don't know why I procrastinated reading it. I really enjoyed it! The subject matter and illustrations lend the book such a neat and spooky aesthetic, and the font is really easy on the eyes. I especially love how some stories debuted in 2012, while others were first published in the 1800s. Despite their wildly different ages, they fit so well together!

After a very clever first story, this anthology took a while to really engage me again.

The Chrestomanci tale was especially disappointing, considering my nostalgic love of the novels.

But! The Flight of the Horse, Prismatica, The Compleat Werewolf and Come Lady Death (why I picked up this book in the first place) were all a joy, and worth plodding through a few duds. Sunbird too, but I've read that before.

Lots of fun little stories, some intriguing, others droll.

Though I knew it wasn't all by Neil Gaiman I was still interested in discovering new authors from this collection, but unfortunately I only enjoyed two of the stories and the only reason I did was probably because they had something to do with beasts.

I'd rather give it two and half stars, a lot of hit and miss stories for me.
