A mystery with a romance, a lot of fun.

Jane Parker-Roth is done with the search for a husband as the whole process has become quite dull. What isn't dull is finding an intruder in her host's study in the middle of the night and Jane doesn't plan to let the man escape. However, what she doesn't know is that said intruder is Edmund Smyth, the viscount she admired from her very first season but he showed no interest in her at the time, but given that he's kissing her is showing those signs now. Edmund didn't expect to be found searching for clues to solve the biggest mystery in London and he didn't expect the one to find him to the be the beautiful and sensual sister of his close friend. He knows that he shouldn't but finds that he cannot push her out of the search as they scour London for clues while avoiding dangerous situations and falling in love.

This was a fun book, but I felt that there was a few things missing. We are introduced to Edmund in the second book of the series and he didn't come off as a young adventurer at the time, but as an older scholarly type. Other than that, the rest of the story was a lot of fun.

Edmund is hilarious in his way of trying to avoid talking about his personal life and the strange and crazy situations he and Jane end up in. I also love that Jane is so ready for adventure that she jumps right in without thinking a lot of the time and that helps them to find more clues to the puzzle they are trying to solve.

I also liked how there was an air of mystery going on, like something dangerous could happen at any second. Although most of the other books in this series focused primarily on smaller issues in the background that mostly affected only a few people, this book had a mystery that could possibly affect all of London, which was a nice switch.

Overall, this book was fun. I would for sure read it again.

I made the mistake of listening to the audio book. The narration was so uncomfortable. Every time she said ohh she sound like a little old lady. It was so weird!!!

The story itself was good. But gah the narration. I can’t get over it.

Clearly my issues with [b:The Naked Earl|236684|The Naked Earl (Naked Nobility, #4)|Sally MacKenzie|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1172986164s/236684.jpg|229245] did not keep me from reading the rest of this series. I liked this one a lot more. First heroine with some knowledge of reproduction! Yay! Good secondary characters (mother, aunts, siblings)and some amusing statuary. I wish the ending hadn't been so rushed though. I think the fall-out of the hero leaving the ball with the heroine slung over his shoulder had high amusement potential.

Well, this was an interesting story. Jane Parker-Roth is done with the marriage mart. She's given up on hoping that she will find a man who she can spend the rest of her life with. And then, she encounters an intruder in her family's rented house and is excited to discover that it's Edmund Smyth, one of her brother's friends. She has a romantic interlude with him but then accidentally knocks over the statue of an amorous Cupid and discovers a titillating drawing in his... well, his penis. This is the drawing Edmund was sent to find, but it is only a portion of the whole. The final portions of the drawing will eventually lead to the man who is trying to revive the Hellfire Club. An incredibly dangerous man but Jane insists on helping: it's the most excitement she's had in awhile. Edmund is too intrigued by this newly discovered passion to really put her off. Typical romance here who has shunned marriage because he's "too young" and has avoided Jane because she's his friends' sister but she seems to be the one who's going to capture his heart.
A little racy, still not my favorite romance series, but I'll definitely keep reading it.

"neither of the women had yet even blinked at jane. had she vanished? she looked down. she could still see herself. she reached out to brush one of the palm fronds. it moved. so she hadn't turned to vapor and disappeared."

"i'm not aware that we discussed anything; you merely blustered about like a misguided male protecting a weak little female."

"she'd like to kick the toad in a very sensitive location - wearing spurs."
