lighthearted fast-paced

Picked this audiobook for a light easy listening … but it really annoyed me.
There’s confusion on the timeline (the age of the siblings, moment of the year, day of the trip) and the major plot elements are so badly used and developed (hockey career, dad’s illness, caring for a child, changes in life priorities). I wish the author made a bit more research and took time to develop the story better.
There was potential, the characters are lovable and the writing style and narrators are ok, but it bugged me too much to enjoy.

I want to complete Marens blacklist so I'm starting HERE. Listened for free via the Audible app. The story was simple & easy to listen to. I think my only problem was the female narrator. I've come to realize i don't very much like the way her voice sounds. This doesn't negatively impact the story that Maren wrote, though.

I really liked Holland. She is such a good friend to Emory, but as her relationship blossoms with Em's older brother, Reed, & his nephew, she becomes a good friend to them too. It was tough for her to balance the push & pull between the siblings. That's a tough spot to be in.

Reed truly grew within the story. We don't really know a whole lot about his playboy ways because he becomes a guardian fairly early, but we were given a decent picture. I giggled a lot with his dialog with Evan. The potty training situation was so friggin cute.

This was an easy paced read. There's not a lot of depth, but it's definitely well rounded. Can't wait to listen to the next one

This wasn’t the greatest. I was hoping for a little more hockey in my hockey romance. It was okay, but I’ve read better.

"It's the first time I've seen him come out of his shell and call me a pussy," the lack of a comma that suggests the 3 year old called him a pussy. Get an editor. Yikes!

"Someone's cutting onions again" this kind of toxic masculinity doesn't need to be perpetuated by female authors. Pass.

Ahhhh I loved this book! It was such a cute, quick read!

This is the first book in the Totally Pucked series. We have Reed Davidson who is a playboy on Chicago’s NHL team. He is set in his ways, not interested in settling down or starting a family. That is until he gets a phone call that changes his life forever & he becomes the parental guardian to his three year old nephew who he didn’t even know existed. Unsure of how to make his hockey schedule work while raising a child alone, he propositions his little sister’s best friend, Holland. Holland ends up going out when him on the road for away games so that she can essentially nanny for him. Everything is going great until what started out as a friend’s with benefits situation grows into something more.

I related so much to Holland & really loved how her relationship with Reed progressed over time. Reed was so sweet & he had really good character development throughout the story!

Definitely give this a read if you like:

I’d like to start by saying how much I liked the cover! I thought it was both sexy and fun! I thought the plot was pretty original with a playboy athlete taking custody of his young nephew from his half sister. Although I really enjoyed the plot, there was something about the book that didn’t quite capture me as much as I hoped it would.

I liked the characters and at times, I thought Holland and I might be the same person. From the way she took care of her father by herself, how she used books as an escape, and even down to her choice of shoes! Reed was the absolute sweetest! The way he treated Holland’s father and Evan was very touching. I’m so happy he quickly rearranged his priorities and left his bachelor life behind him.

Overall, I felt like this was an easy read, with things falling into place quite nicely.
