A great book to introduce shapes to little ones in ways that they can connect back to things they might see everyday. A great book for story time or baby lapsit!

Interesting book on perspective, this time concentrating on the shapes you see when you really look. I liked the idea of the girls perspective and the bird's. Collier's illustrations are, as always, fantastic.

July 2016 - beautiful illustrations and a light rhyming story that highlights different shapes in the city. There's at least one easy-to-spot shape in each spread, but others are more nuanced, taking it beyond just a concept book. The rectangular buildings, for example, are cut-off by the edge of the page, but other rectangles are easier to spot (although Ben can't spot the difference between a square and a rectangle yet, he's got circles and ovals down - funny kid).

Really, really lovely book -- great rhymes, good pacing, excellent opportunities for kids to contribute and observe. Also, yay diversity!

I love the idea of this book! The text is fine and the illustrations are pretty, but the execution just falls flat for me. Frankly, the text makes you think the pictures should be from a bird's eye view when the pictures are instead from a little girl's view. And, although the illustrations successfully capture the look and feel of a busy urban area, they just do a really poor job of actually defining shapes for the reader. I wanted to use this in my toddler and preschool story times when we have a shape theme, but the shapes are simply not well-defined enough. Many of them I had to search hard to find (and I've known my shapes for over 40 years). Pretty pictures, simple rhyming text, but the execution of the idea just doesn't work. Not recommended.
