so famous that i feel kind of weird rating this with the same system that i rate anything else? but a lot more fun to read by myself than in middle school. i was surprised how much i understood without looking at the sidebar (my version had a "plain english" side) one of my favorite things about reading is going hey look at how people have had similar thoughts across ages and some of those thoughts are definitely. madness of the night and woods and submission and delirium

Midsummer is right around the corner so what better time to read this classic!
I’ve been wanting to read Shakespeare’s works for a long time and I saw the Stage editions of his works so immediately bought them. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a story about love and it’s funny to see them lose their minds over each other. I must admit, the ending was a bit unsatisfactory, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I also already knew how the story went down because I actually performed a scene of it during drama class :) (big warning, Theseus is in this book)

I know I'm probably the odd one out as far as liking this play goes, but I went in with higher expectations than the results gave me. I enjoyed the scenes between Demetrius, Lysander, Hermia, and Helena, but the other characters bored me quite a bit. I picked up on the jokes and wit, don't get me wrong--I just found myself rushing through this play more than I do a lot of Shakespeare's works. It wasn't terrible, not by any means, but I don't think I can list it as one of my favorite plays by him. Hermia was most definitely my favorite character, and I loved that a lot of the relationships were already predetermined as the play set itself up, I was just expecting to read something different.

I listened to the Naxos full cast audio while I read, the actors were great. It really helped me follow the play.
The play is very theatrical, with lots of plot lines and room for a wide range of emotions. It was good and I am glad I finally read it, but As You Like It still holds the title of my favorite Shakespeare comedy.
