There was nothing specifically wrong with this book, it just featured most of my least favorite parts of Sy Montgomery’s writing but wasn’t substantive enough to bring out the redeeming qualities. Hummingbirds are cool though.

This is a fantastic short story, interwoven with a wealth of information, which is just the way I like it. The author's personal experience in assisting with the rehabilitation of two hummingbird orphans, alongside Brenda, adds a heartwarming dimension to the narrative. Hummingbirds are truly remarkable creatures, and this book showcases the love and admiration they so rightfully deserve.

A quick read under 100 pages. Sy always does an excellent job of writing and observing the natural world and beautiful creatures in it. I look forward to reading more from her.

I'm definitely in the "I'll read ANYTHING Sy Montgomery writes" camp and have been ever since I read The Good Pig back in 2006, I think. She brings a contagious sense of wonder to every project she undertakes. Readers will worry right along with her about the littlest hummer as she describes its struggles to survive. If you like birds in general or hummingbirds in specific or even just short nature writing, do NOT miss this one.
