I find this book immensely engaging in terms of the authors’ selection of quotes from a wide range of Stoic philosophers, and then expounding them. Thoses quotes really hit deep sometimes.

The only thing that puts me off is the American-centric bias sparsely scattered through the pages. Okay, we get that an American general had a copy of the Enchiridion when he descended into the Vietnam War, but, how does that add weight to Stoic wisdom, given the context of that tragic and appalling war?

In summary: it's still great as an introduction to Stoic writings, just ignore the authors’ view on certain things.

The source material is great, but the delivery doesn't really work for me and the interpretations of the other didn't really add value. Ymmv.

This is the first book I have read that is designed to be consumed every day. I found the habit of waking up every morning and reading this effective for incorporating the content of the book into my life. I enjoyed it a lot and plan to read more books in this style.

If you know about stoicism and want to refocus on it every day, this book is for you.

I usually forget what I read that morning, by the time I get in the car and start navigating the real world, but I’m going to just keep using it as a guide, with the hope of doing a little better each day.
Good stuff.

Initial reason for reading this: Because my brother recommended this.
Current reason: Don't ask...

Also I thought this wouldn't be a day to day affirmation style book lol. But also it appears I already am practicing stoicism(?)

Very solid book, and full of easy one-page reads per day to give you bits of wisdom. Lots of the topics and quotes from the different stoic philosophers, mimic quite a bit from The book of Proverbs in the Bible. However, the modern day "translation" and examples that Ryan provides from the stoic philosophers helps apply it to our everyday lives. 3.5/5
