Ok, so the reread with an audiobook makes the racism glaringly obvious. But the chaotic depiction of the LA mafia from a white British woman who genuinely believes that Spanish immigrants would have more sway in LA than anyone from Mexico, Central, or South America is hilarious
Strong character development: No

Forced proximity, marriage of convenience, & enemies to lovers are some of my fav tropes and this book had it all! The plot twist at the end had me immediately downloading book 2. I loved the story line for Alex & Alana and how they each immediately started to realize the other was not who they thought they actually were. All ima say is I know somebody close is up to something. My only issue with Alana is how immature she would act when things got real and how Alex would just allow her tears and sex to kinda pacify everything.

Alejandro & Alana are pure fire!❤️‍

I read this specifically for the smut, which was pretty good 3.75⭐️. Would have been better if the author didn’t use the word cream so much.
The plot is in no way unique. You’ve probably read this same book 4 times before if you’re into Mafia type romance. The formatting might be the worst I’ve ever seen.
It’s a good choice if you’re looking for a quick smutty read to cure the hangover you got from a 7-book fantasy series.

I have got to stop taking BookTok suggestions.

This is basically smut with a sprinkling of plot. 50% and then started skimming.

Alejandro is an asshole. He married Alana as part of a business deal and basically uses her for sex, which she apparently is cool with. But when he comes to care about her, he can’t possibly let her know. He is insatiable - if they’re in the same space, they’re doing it.

Alana is…boring. She does what she’s told, with little to no objection or question. She never denies Alejandro. She never argues. Even when it looks like she might finally grow a backbone, he slips a hand under her dress and she forgets what she’s mad about.

The two never talk about anything but sex, unless he’s threatening her for some perceived slight. I love a good mafia story, but I cannot stand an ineffectual FMC. And the MMC can be an alpha-hole to everyone but his wife. I want a power couple, dammit!

Words like “obey” and “submit” and “punishment” get thrown around quite a bit without any mention of safe words or explicit consent. Alana never says no, but does imply that she submits to him because she loves him and it just feels gross.

It ends on a cliffhanger, with the next book titled Fierce Queen. I don’t know how, because Alana is anything but fierce. And I don’t care enough to find out.

Quick and easy read. It is on the darker side but not necessarily a full on dark romance. Typical mafia,  bully romance. Kind of feels like a fanfic. But I’m not here for literary masterpiece.

For some reason I have never reviewed this before, but it's one of my favourite go to mafia books.

It has what you would expect - forced marriage, possessive man, a little danger (although not much in this book) and a nice little bit of love.

It's fun, easy and this whole series is just a good read.
