I liked this way more than I thought I would. I had avoided anymore books from her after reading about the Ryan brothers but it kept coming up on my fyp on TikTok smh. I’ve learned that can either go really good or really badly. In this case, I actually prefer Alejandro and Alana more than the Ryan reverse harem. They’re cute but I enjoyed the growth in this story.
This was written as a loose enemies to lovers - arranged marriage and while the hatred that comes with enemies to lovers was kind of missing, I liked that it wasn’t destructive or bullying to Alana. What I really liked was seeing Alana find herself outside of her father and Alejandro. She found a purpose in the shelter and it didn’t seem forced. I wish we had more scenes of her there but oh well.
The ONLY downside was Alejandro giving Alana a punishment so soon after she’d been attacked trying to save Lucia (Lucy) from the ex-boyfriend. Like she just got beat up, punched in the face, left stranded by the cabbie, and Alejandro is so mad he’s thinking of punishing her. I get the spankings are most likely the authors way of spicing up the smut but in that instance the timing was way off. I wish we’d gotten a tender smut moment there once they got to the cabin. Instead we got her being hit with a belt and him working off his anger on Alana.
Overall, though I liked the book enough to read the next one.

All telling, no showing. Very “I’m not like other girls.” Writing was really basic and unfeeling. The characters had no nuance, which made their dialogue not very believable.
