She has clear themes and social commentary and she uses her characters to explore them.
There were some elements that I remembered reading in Normal People. I wasn’t sure if it was lazy writing or reusing material. I really feel like Rooney highlighted things in this book that she would later explore more deeply in NP.
These books seem to demand to be read twice. The first time is to estalibish themes and the second to really analyze the character study and how it relates to them.
