It’s very Kerouac-esque, stream of thought writing but Ephron has a unique voice and it’s enjoyable. While I was reading it gave me the feeling of listening to those quirky characters in her movies and their charming, rambling monologues. It’s very Meg Ryan. And then I thought of Amy Sherman-Palladino, I bet Ephron was a big influence of hers because it reminds me of Lorelei Gilmore and especially the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which are my favorites and anytime I’m reading or listening in this case to a book and it reminds me of Lorelei Gilmore, it’s an automatic winner.

Meryl Streep read the audio version and I know you know she’s one of the greatest actors ever but you can really tell in this reading, exactly how talented she is.

I like the general monologuing in a humourous way tone this book has. Plus three pages on potatoes, that was a good life choice. There's some casual racism and homophobia in this, and I would prefer not to see that (can't tell if this is an "of it's time" thing), but I don't really think Rachel is intended to be likeable, contextually at least these parts made sense for the sort of person she is supposed to be.
