I haven't read a book by Atwood in a long time. She's still very "vocal" about her views. I liked the story and the multiple perspectives, but occasionally found the story to be too preachy- I know humans are wasting the world, weak for sex, and cruel to one another. Very strong characters and an interesting future- not one I'm interested in living. I do see her vision as possible- the world run by the Corportations, no land, no real food. Scary, really. My favorite Atwood novel is still Alias Grace.

I love this book, and I loved the cross over with Oryx and Crake. Can't wait to read the final book!

Such a creative story. I listened to the audiobook - could have done without the songs.

Almost prescient. Sadly COVID could not save Mother Earth the same way as the waterless flood!

I found the POV of all of the new characters fascinating. Really fun to try to line up all the events between the two books. Really looking forward to the third. The audio book had different actors for different POV characters and even actual singing for the songs. Made it easy and fun to listen to, and added a dimension I wouldn't have gotten with the print version. This book is much darker than the first, with a lot more violence and a lot more sexual violence against women. I think it's rewarding to see how the characters (particularly Ren) views the men in the first book, compared to Jimmy's/Snowman's reverence.

I think the including and interweaving of every character from the first book a little cutesy and not necessary. It almost made the world feel smaller, like there were only so many pieces on the board. I remember really liking this aspect when I first read this as a teenager so it's interesting to dislike it now that I'm older.
