Short story collections are always hit or miss. Some of these stories are true works of beauty that capture something ephemeral and deeply complex about trans experiences, while others are bewildering, plodding, and never caught my attention. My favorite story was Rock Jenny. My least favorite was Moon Snail.

In each of these stories, Angus pairs the earthliness of trans experiences with the ethereal and mystical — really stretching the bounds of “transition”.

Delightfully weird, touching, and charming. Read it.

pretty good set of short stories, some of them are a bit weird and have weird morals (ie. pro invasive species bc they are adaptable) also some aspects were kind of weird about Indigenous communities, specifically the Winter of Men story being set in colonial New France and sort of glamorized

I was really excited about this book when I got it, but the stories and characters just don't draw me in very much and there are too many other books I want to read to get hung up on this one. I liked it, but not enough to keep reading the rest of the stories.
