DOES CARL DIE??

Slow burn, but honestly so worth it.

witty and wonderful and dammit, Skippy does die.

An interesting plot with well thought-out characters, drawn out over far too many pages, weighted down with lengthy diversions into string theory (snore) and First World War studies (which I found fascinating). Most of all, I found the author's inconsistent use of voice--he switches from second (UGH!) to third person narrative, frequently in the midst of a chapter--to be distracting and irritating rather than clever. If Murray's editors had forced him to reign it all it a bit, I think I'd have enjoyed it much more.

I really liked this book in the beginning. Some paragraphs and lines were absolutely amazing. The book started to lose steam, though. There were a lot of characters and it really could have been edited down to be half as long as it was. I started to get bored toward the end. What started off as fantastic fizzled out, especially in the "Skippy's dead" section.
