Charlie is divorced and down on his luck, still living in his father's house a year after his death in spite of his siblings wanting to sell it off.  One day he comes home from trying to get a bank loan to find a strange woman on his porch swing, Til tells him his uncle left him a bequest and all he has to do is stand witness at the man's funeral(a man he hasn't seen since he was 5 years old).  He believes he's inherited parking garages, turn out it's a supervillain business.
The talking animals in here were a lot of fun and I liked how Charlie just kind of rolled with all the weird things that keep happening to and around him.

Charlie is down on his luck - a divorced, laid-off journalist working as a substitute middle school teacher who can barely afford the Meow Mix he feeds his beloved cat Hera. Then his estranged uncle Jake dies, and he discovers he is the heir to a vast, James Bond-villainesque operation (complete with volcanic island lair). Suddenly, he has to receive a crash course in supervillany by Jake's formidable right hand man (woman), Mathilda Morrison - while avoiding being killed by Jake's many enemies.

This book was a lot of fun. Charlie is extremely likable - clueless and in over his head, but just smart and ballsy enough to get by in his new circumstances. I'm not going to go into further detail to avoid spoiling any of the good stuff. Let's just say I laughed a lot. The dolphins alone were worth the read. The fact that Starter Villain has already been optioned for a movie version is unsurprising. Highly recommended if you have a goofy sense of humor.

Quick read similar to the witty writing style in A Series of Unfortunate Events, just with much more cursing.
