Haven’t been motivated enough to write a book review in a while but alas, this book was too annoying for me to shut my mouth. Let’s start with the classic thriller trope of the alcoholic nosy lonely woman spying on her neighbors—a tired cliche at this point. Has Sager ever even met a woman!? He falls short in his writings of female characters every time. I don’t know why he won’t try a male lead (can’t think of any of his books that have a male protagonist). He should stick to what he knows.

Moving on…the events in the book don’t even make sense after the reveal that Casey knew this whole time that her dead husband was the serial killer. Why would she be all in terror about possibly having serial killer neighbors when she knew that wasn’t true??

I also personally hate a supernatural twist as the explanation for the plot. It feels like a cheap way to fill in plot holes and an excuse for the writing lacking substance. The added “twist” at the end was also really just eye rolling and another thriller cliche. As others have said, this will likely be my last sager book.

Fun twists. Good story. Would give more 3.5 just due to me being sick of the drunk protagonist trope.

It was captivating, and rather suspenseful (although I had nothing to compare it to as this was my first thriller)- up until the ending, which sucked terribly! Some of the plot twists were nice, I guess, but the supernatural stuff was just confusing and felt like a lazy way to end it when it was never mentioned throughout the entirety of the book!

What a goofy-ass book.
