Well I'd sworn off NA/YA books because I was starting to get a tad homicidal at the sheer predictability of it all but I kept looking at this one and hesitating so I took the plunge.
Yes. there are some of the stock elements of the genre. Man-whore boy with tattoos, semi-virginal nerd girl, both have stupid names, first person POV (although it does alternate between them).
But there the NA/YA-ness that I have come to hate ended. The story was different. There were really no friends/no bars/no fights (well except from those friends, those nights drinking Jose and those fights!).
So Kyler is a man-whore, he looks like a Greek god but (apparently) with better man-parts. A kid from a trailer park his mother has built up a successful bar restoration (nope, not a clue) business but (for some reason) he still feels like the poor kid that everyone looks down on.
Sydney has been Kyler's BFF since they were 6 (or 9, anyway young) and she has been in love with him pretty much since he pushed her off the swing. But she is allegedly frigid after one sexual experience.
A group of friends agree to visit Kyler's mother's lodge just before Christmas for their ritual ski holiday. But a snow storm starts up and only Kyler and Syd arrive before the blizzard sets in. Add in unfriendly locals and tequila ...
I really enjoyed this book, OK the premise was a bit far-fetched but then Syd's friend said, and I paraphrase. Given that premise the story hangs together.

Feels very similar to [b:Wait for You|17314430|Wait for You (Wait for You, #1)|J. Lynn|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1363819713s/17314430.jpg|23981243].
I’ve read several books written by Jennifer L. Armentrout under both her pseudonyms, and I just love her books. So when I was looking for a new read and saw ‘Frigid’, the first book in a series I haven’t read before, I just couldn’t resist and bought it.
In ‘Frigid’ we meet Sydney and Kyler. Sydney and Kyler have been best friends ever since they were little. But Sydney has been feeling much more than friendship for Kyler for a long time now. But Kyler is one of those guys who has a different hook-up every single night. When I read the book description I loved the sounds of this best friend romance book, and I was excited to find myself really liking Sydney and Kyler’s characters. There friendship was just really sweet and I was really rooting for them.
But I had some issues with this book. I don’t mind reading sex scenes but here it just felt a little awkward and too much at times. I mean, best friends forever and they go from being just friends to much more in only a second? Okay, it was a little longer but I just didn’t get it. They where secretly pining for each other but both were afraid to say it and when they finally share their feelings they can’t stop having sex and don’t talk about anything? I mean.. I get it.. but when you’ve been afraid to hurt your friendship for so long I don’t get how they can forget all that in a second.
Although I liked the two main characters, I didn’t really like reading about how ‘perfect’ Kyler was and how he was sleeping with everyone who had breasts. Why are some guys like that? I mean.. blegh.. And really.. Kyler supposedly is the perfect man: handsome, abs etc. A little less perfect would have been much more believable.
But thankfully there was still a lot I liked about this book too. For one the friendship between Sydney and Kyler. And I loved the scenery in this book. Who doesn’t love reading about a cabin surrounded with snow in December?! LOL!
Overall this story was sweet and I enjoyed reading it.

While I enjoyed this story I am already sick of the standard "New Adult" formula (which is represented in this story) of the the man-whore super stud falling for the innocent and inexperienced heroine. While I don't particularly want a heroine who sleeps around with lots of different guys I would prefer a slightly more realistic take with the girl having at least one previous partner and some enjoyment gained from her previous sexual experience rather than either the college age virgin or the girl who has only had one or two experiences and not enjoyed them. I also prefer a hero like Cam (from J lynn's Wait For You). He has experience and hook ups but not excessively (with a different girl, or more each night) and isn't disrespectful of women or opposed to a relationship like your typical New Adult man-whore.

*Strong sexual situations are in this and may not be suitable fr every reader.*
For this book to be set somewhere in the snow, I guarantee that it couldn't get much hotter. JLA has done it again. Now I have yet another super hot, super sweet fictional guy to add to my super long fictional love interest.
Speaking of hot literary guys, lets start with Kyler. Yeahhhhh he was a bit of a man whore, but he was a well protected one and he didn't do half as much as Syd thought he did so I thought that was a plus. And then there was all the innuendos that ran through his head when he thought about Syd. <3 Gah every time he said something super sweet I fell for him all over again. I was so happy that JLA decided to do this in dual perspective because the chance to peek inside Kyler's brain was priceless.
I also liked Syd. Although she was so quiet and annoyed me sometimes, it was only because she was being such a "girl." With me the reader seeing both sides, I wanted her to know that she wasn't alone and that Kyler loved her too, just so they could get their HEA. I found myself like talking to Syd out loud while reading. So much so my boyfriend asked me "who I was talking to" on the phone lol I had to get him to understand that I was fully into a book and not to bother me.
As for the romance, I loved seeing them finally together. I was so happy when they finally got locked in the cabin and I was so distraught when their little mix-up happened between them. I loved that they had been friends before they got together, not just friends, but life long best friends, and they knew so much about each other. It made them so much closer.
Lastly there was the creeper that was stalking them. I knew who was the one doing it, but I had no idea that it went that deep. Even though I liked it, I wish it was a little more suspenseful. But I understand that this was a contemp and it was focused more on Kyler err the romance.
In short, JLA has done it again. Captivated my heart with another guy and fully enthralled me into an amazing story. I was so into this book that I found myself reading it everywhere, including at work. And this probably wasn't the best thing for people to catch me reading lol Now after reading this, I NEED to get my hands on her other NA title, Wait for You!
(Anyone else wondering if the second book will be a companion about Tanner and Andrea?! I HOPE so!!!!)
