Both male and female characters seem weak and not intriguing at all

I loved this book!!!!!! It was so cute. I almost died when I saw the reference to Jo Keller of What Jo Wore from the book The Allure of Julian Lefray by R.S. Grey. That was by far my favorite part!!!

Well, y'all know how excited I've been for this one. Slip of the Tongue rocked my WORLD earlier this year and I was beyond stoked to get more Jessica Hawkins. Let me tell you - this book was WELL worth the wait!

The First Taste had Hawkins flexing her sexy muscles, delivering some of the most powerful and dynamic sex scenes I have ever read. Ever. They were executed so perfectly, and I especially appreciate the realness of them. Why am I talking about sex first? Well, because honestly, I'm RARELY impressed by sex scenes - and this book just really tickled my pickle in that regard. As an author, I know how difficult it is to nail those, so hats off to you, Hawkins!

I'm totally digging the new trend of hot dads and ain't nobody got a damn thing on Andrew Beckwith. He was exactly what I pictured him to be as a man and as a dad. It was hilarious getting inside his head when he thought about his 6 year old princess, even more hilarious to see him interact with her, and gut wrenching at times when we watched his struggle as a single parent. I really appreciated his character as a whole. He just shined for me!

Amelia was my kind of gal. She's smart, witty, independent and takes shit from absolutely no one. This is my favorite kind of heroine, and I love their struggle with letting men in because I identify with it. When you're raised as an independent woman or just become one after being burned one too many times, it changes everything about love and trust. It was so nice to see her grow in this book, especially in evaluating what matters most to her in life.

I LOVED these two together. Andrew brought out the best in Amelia, making her dig inside and look around at the rubble her ex left behind. As for the other way around, Amelia brought Andrew out of his single dad shell. They just balanced each other so well - and they SIZZLE between the sheets. Good Lord, give these two a bottle of whiskey and just watch the magic happen, y'all! ;)

The First Taste just illustrated to me yet again that Jessica Hawkins is going to be one of those authors that I will read anything they write. I love her prose, her careful consideration of characters, her humor and most of all - her unapologetically flawed characters.

Five angsty stars! <3

Hard hearts break easy. It’s the soft ones that survive hit after hit.

I took a chance and it most certainly paid off.

One of the best things of being on holiday is that you can read all the books you’d thought you’d never have time for, eleven books later I realise that I can’t get around writing some reviews and The First Taste is one of those books.

I got a tip that this was free, I just read single dad romance and I one clicked it. Colour me effing impressed by Ms. Hawkins writing. My feeds were blowing up with this author but for the book Slip of the Tongue. That book is territory I don’t quite want to wade into just yet.

The writing truly is outstanding, yeah I know I sound surprised but let’s face it how many of us have taken a chance on a book and it hasn’t paid off? All of us.

I had a run of emotions on this book and was convinced that it could not be what I wanted to read. I was wrong.

The development of the relationship between the main characters was beautiful. They are both flawed and that is what attracted me the most. They have things they have to work on and they will do it together or not.

Andrew is an amazing father but he is far too co-dependent with this daughter. He is being encouraged to start dating again but he is unsure however a one night stand is an option. He is one of the best book boyfriends that I have read in a while and I am very, very, very fond of him.

Amelia is a New York City gal to the bone. Her priorities are somewhat skewered. I didn’t like Amelia to begin with and I didn’t see the outcome of the couple’s relationship ending well but the more I read the more I noticed the subtle changes that Amelia was going through. I ended up liking her a lot.

Chemistry wise these two were off the frigging charts. I was all hot and bothered and had the tingles from head to toe. Even if under normal circumstances they weren’t another one’s type that is exactly why it worked.

This book is about honesty and that honesty should never be left out. About open communication and trust on all levels and hope. There is no right or wrong. There is no black or white. The First Taste is a book that touched me on all levels and a truly outstanding book by this author.

Thank you Ms. Hawkins for writing it and to Emerson for recommending it.

Andrew and Amelia learning to love again through open, honest conversation is such a beautiful journey. I was honored to connect with these characters as they learned to trust each other despite their pasts and the pitfalls their exes threw at them.

I love single father stories. And as far as this one goes, it was pretty good. The plot was great, I love the personalities of the main characters. I had trouble connecting with them, though.

Overall, a good book, and I'll go back to read Sadie's story!

everything leading up to the ending was good, then I felt like it was ended quite fast.

Give me back my heart Andrew Beckwith! What started off as a one night stand, quickly turns into something much deeper. I loved to watch how much these characters changed right before my eyes. Andrew, Amelia,  and Bell's journey was written so beautifully and realistically,  that I found myself questioning my own wants and fears. This was one of those books that sticks with you for a long time. Love, pain, passion, fears, and some hot and steamy sex, Jessica Hawkins poured it all into this book!
