You could feel the age of this book in the writing style. I didn’t really find myself liking any of the characters. I feel it was most likely a better book closer to its time of release but the age of the writing made it fall flat for me.

I read this book the first time about 25 years ago. I decided to revisit it and was surprised to find while reading that there were now references to cell phones when I knew this was an older novel. Research to find that the author made updates to this and her other novels circa 2010. An interesting idea but I think it's a detriment to the story. There are plot points that don't work well in the age of cell phones. Still a good read but I think the story was better left in it's original time period.

Great concept and fantastic title. Not a huge wonder that this was adapted into a movie 25 years later and borrowed little from the story other than the name and general idea. Neither this book nor the movie elevate much higher than a guilty pleasure unfortunately.
