DNF @ 56%. Brilliant violinist struck by tragedy enrolls at a prestigious yet spooky musical academy, but the other students try to drive her off and the ruthless headmistress is hiding secrets. The setting was creepy and the storyline was decently unique, but I just lost interest after awhile.
I think I wasnt In the mood so potentially could pick up again another day

The premise is interesting, and I enjoy paranormal/gothic books so points to that. The mystery going around at the Academy is what kept me curious. Overall, this was mediocre, and the writing isn't the best.
I will, although, finish the trilogy because I need to know all those secrets and mysteries and how the story finishes.

This is my first book by Steffanie Holmes and I am loving the spooky vibe! I love academy bully books, but this one has a new spin on the trope by being an exclusive musical academy. Everyone that attends is a top tier classical musician looking at world wide careers.
There is a lot of mysterious things happening in and around Manderley, as well as Faye and her mother's lives. I keep thinking that I've figured things out, only to have more questions.
This book gives off lots of ghosty vibes and I am here for it. This book has had me on the edge of my seat, while also giving me chills. I was not expecting it to end like it did and now I need answers! What is happening at Manderley and why?!?

Hm....
When I read romance, I'm not expecting characters with a lot of depth.
I'm also not expecting expansive plot and worldbuilding.
This book is no exception, just the setting is really explored.
The characters don't really have any personality, they're just all angsty and horny...
I get why this is labelled as a paranormal romance, but...I didn't feel true ghosty vibes with this. There were some hints sprinkled throughout the story but they were so far in the background I had to squint, except for one chapter. There was one chapter that I didn't need to squint.
It's also not the hot and heavy romance that I was expecting. I think this may be another instance of "had I gone in blind I wouldn't have formed that expectation". I dunno. But still, a couple wet dreams and hookups in the very end (in my opinion) don't equal hot and heavy.
Also...If I come across the term "sound the fuck trumpet" one more time I will lose my mind.
I'll give points for using condoms, I guess.
I give credit to the author for writing this, I will still try another of her books. I just won't be reading book 2. Even with the cliffhanger at the end where the ghost FINALLY decides to do something paranormal, it just wasn't enough for me to want to continue this series. I really don't care whatever happens to Faye, wherever the ghost took her away to. I just don't believe that authors should be judged on one book alone.
