Easy is one of my favorite and most reread books. While I did enjoy this version of the story I just don’t feel like it measured up to the original.
I really enjoyed the “Landon” vs “Lucas” technique that the author used. It felt very creative and represented the change in Lucas well.
I did enjoy Lucas backstory though it did read slow. I feel this book represented grief and what it can do to different people really well. It left me heartbroken with some of the things young Lucas has to go through after losing his mom in such a violent way. I came to love his childhood friend Boyce and particularly his name puns. They’re relationship was interesting and random but ended up super sweet.
The one BIG issue I had with the backstory was the VIVID details of minors having sex or doing sexual things. It’s important to his backstory to explain all these different coping mechanisms and heartbreaks and stuff, but the author devoted paragraphs and really explicit sentence to two 15/16 year old kids having sex that I just didn’t think we’re needed. Like I’m a grown adult and it just feels weird dude.
Lucas point of view on the events of Easy were nice. The way the author worded things didn’t make me feel like I was reading the same exact thing over and over again which was perfect since I read Easy then this back to back. I enjoy some of the added scenes, like the mirror scene, visiting his dad, or the TONGUE RING!! Plus his whole view of their relationship is so…sweet. He was so caught up in her from the beginning and seeing an explanation for some of his actions, like begging her to ask him to stop, really added a lot to the story.
