I know that there are different books for different people but this really was not for me. I know books can make us feel all the feels but this one was really very depressing almost all the way through. I gave 1.5 stars rather than 1 because it did have me hoping for Salem and Thayer there for a bit. I saw there is a book 2 but I have no desire to put myself through stuff like that again.

✨️REVIEW✨️ The Confidence of Wildflowers by Micalea Smeltzer

Favourite quote "I'm not bright like you, but I promise, when your days are dark, I'll be your light."

I loved this book from the moment I started it. It kept me hooked all the way through.

Salem is 18 years old and finds herself with a new handsome neighbour, Thayer, 31 and a single dad to Forrest.

He's a grump and she's the sunshine. You can see where this is heading right. It's going great until the tragedy hits and my poor little heart is broken...sobbed and sobbed. 😭💔

I haven't recovered and I'm broken, I need to give it a day before I start the next one as I'm not sure I could cope with any more hurt without a HEA.

The writing style is great, easy to read and follow. The storyline is good and the characters are great.

I would check TWs before reading as there are mentions of s$xual and physical abuse and d3eath.

Another new author for me but will (when I've recovered) be reading more of.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. Thankyou @netgalley @micaleasmeltzer

The girl is 18, legit a child, while the dude is 31. 31!

MAKE SURE you read the trigger/content warnings.
Okay, so that was way darker than I thought it would be.
I’ve never read an age gap romance before (apart from, well, Twilight and the like) and I didn’t end up enjoying it. But I won’t criticise his age because I knew what I was in for. So, every time Thayer’s hairyness was described I think a threw up a little. But apart from that the romance was fine. The only reason I was attached to Thayer was because his son Forrest was so adorable. He was my favourite character.
WHY THE EFF DID HE HAVE TO DROWN???

Anyway
:)
Didn’t really care about the Mum or the sister but luckily they weren’t too prevalent.
There were lot of dark things in this book
brief mentions of past SA, Salem’s mum getting cancer, and, I can’t forget, FORREST DROWNING!
that felt really random. I don’t know why the author added these things in. They didn’t tie in well.
Anyhow, I’m not a picky reader when it comes to romances so this was fine.

I didn’t like how this book was written at first. It took me quite a few chapters to enjoy the way it was written. But once I started getting giddy about Thayer & Salem, I enjoyed it from then on out.

The age gap is odd to me, but something I could look over for the plots sake. I did think he showed a huge paternal role with the gifts and protectiveness of her!

Check the TW before reading. Death, abuse, sexual assault, adult/minor, etc are all mentioned even if it’s brief!
