apparently the novella at the end is one of the worst books in the English language and I didn't want to stick around to find out why

For vampire-lit lovers, this is probably a feast. Michael Sims compiles quite a span of literature referencing vampires and vampiric lore. Perhaps of most interest are the stories and writings of lesser known authors, some of whom have probably been rightfully forgotten and others who have merely been eclipsed by their flashier counterparts. What most interested me were the short introductions that Sims provides for each of his selections.
In general, though, reading this collection straight through is probably a bad idea. Because all of the selections are specifically about vampires, the stories often become repetitive. The impact that some of the stories might have had on their own gets lost in the predictability of knowing they are about vampires.

Judging just based on the introduction, and... I didn't get anything new. A good edition, for sure, for hardcore fans, but there's little to surprise.

I love Dracula but somehow didnt expected to enjoy this. But I did. Its a short but very engaging story with a very eerie and spooky feel. Perfect for when the weather gets colder, gloomy and rainy. Not as extreme as some modern horror but definitely a classic that I recommend if you enjoyed Dracula.
