Probably one of my new faves. Tao Te Ching, Bhagavad Gita, Meditations, and definitely The Niche Of Lights by Al Ghazali. Love for God is the most powerful, and purification of the soul in Sufism is expounded in such an eloquent and articulate manner by the great theologian Al Ghazali. I find his approach to Islam very centred, it does not rely heavily on extreme literalism and neither does it rely heavily on rational skepticism, it fits in between in the realm of spiritual devotion and religiosity to God. In this day an age, it is very difficult to get that balance right especially amongst the loudest and most evangelical religious groups, which tend to be also the most ignorant and unintrospective. I absolutely appreciate the tone and mellow nature of Al Ghazali’s writing, he is deeply reflective and contemplative and serves as an inspiration and I hope his work is exposed to more Muslims and non-muslims around the world.
