Saying goodbye to The Last Hours characters is bittersweet. Their vibrancy and spirit will be deeply missed! "Chain of Thorns" offered a surprising journey, subverting many theories fans had formulated. While the pacing faltered in the middle with some repetitive moments, the overall story delivered heartwarming interactions and a satisfying conclusion.

The focus on character growth and emotional connections may have differed from the high-drama style of the previous books, but it resonated in its own way. The epilogue, in particular, tied up the characters' arcs beautifully, leaving a sense of contentment and hope. Fans who appreciate Cassandra Clare's signature happy endings will find much to celebrate in "Chain of Thorns."

I am a huge fan of shadowhunters and have been reading these books for years. Waiting for the next one is always a pain because I am always so invested in the story and the suspense is too much. But this time it felt like only nostalgia was keeping me from putting it down. I really stopped caring after a while. This was the last book and I knew everything would be splendidly resolved anyway (like it always does) so I just skipped many pages in the end. It got boring for me.
And I realize that the shadowhunter world is fictional and they are all very 'modern' about stuff but the book is written in a way that really does not feel like it is set a hundred years ago. It's just hard for me to reconcile with all the differences. This is exactly why I did not like TID either. TMI and TDA were better reads for me. (I did feel a bit lost near the end of TDA though)
I am sure I will still read The Wicked Powers when it comes out. But the excitement is gone. I, in no way blame Cassie. Her writing has not changed. But I can not say the same about my taste and expectations.
