Another Tracey Lange book I couldn’t wait to pickup to read and this may be my favorite one yet!
Our main character, Kyle, is estranged from his family, friends and hometown for the past 2 years. He is forced to return home after his father suffers a serious health scare that requires aftercare. When Kyle returns home, he comes to terms with his past and the events that led to his departure.
The story is told in past and future storylines in duo perspective of Kyle and Casie. What Happened to the McCrays is a story about loss, grief, heartbreak, but also love, devotion, family, community, and the importance of communication.
I thought the middle school hockey team that Kyle and Cassie end up coaching/managing together brought some humor to the story, while also a key reason of purpose for the main characters.
Please be aware this story discusses suicide attempt, and depression after the loss of a child

This was a very good, very emotional read. I admit I thought it was going to be a bit more "mystery" than it was, but that's my own fault for adding books to my TBR and then completely forgetting about them until I start reading them. It was easy to get frustrated with the main characters here and want them to just get back together already, but when the whole story unfolds, you can understand the mental blocks they were putting up to protect themselves. I will say, there's a lot of "trigger warning" content in this book, so if there are certain topics that would be rough for you to read, you should look that up.
