When It's Real by Erin Watt

This book might be my favorite Erin Watt book yet. I really enjoyed reading the Paper Princess series and I will definitely keep reading it, but I think that I really enjoyed this other outlook on certain lifestyles and the story was executed so well. I was hooked.

I read it practically in one sitting. I just loved the way that They had both points of view from Vaughn and Oakley, but didn't overdue Oakley's POV. They put in more of Vaughn's POV which I think worked well with the book, but also kept me on edge the whole time wondering what would happen next.

I loved how these characters balanced each other out, giving Vaughn introspect into the life of Oakley, how his life is not so perfect behind the curtain, and helping bring out Oakley's more humbled side. These characters were not perfect and they were so normal and understandable. I mean some of the things going on in Oakley's POV made me feel exhausted just from thinking of it, and I always had a clear picture of what was going on in my mind. The writing makes the visual so easy to see, and now that I think of it, it's one of the most vivid stories that have played out in my head.

Also what I love about characters that seem to be making a pattern in Erin Watt books is the kickass female characters who refuse to take shit. Ella from Paper Princess is also kickass and from humble beginnings, but she is obviously a different person.
Vaughn isn't taking shit from Oakley and she will be sarcastic and not give a damn.

So I would highly recommend this book for someone who wants romance but not the cute and sweet type, but the complex and there is definitely something here type. Also for learning about the Hollywood experience which I personally found interesting since I've read a book showing what fame is like, but this was a different and more real
version of that which I liked.

SPOILER SECTION*******

I need to rant about that asshole what was his name again? I don't want to bother to remember.
Okay I looked it up and it was W oh yeah whoops thought it was M.
Anyway he just got worse and worseeee.
I mean it was obvious from the beginning that he wasn't gonna be the guy for her cause he was already the boyfriend and the interesting guy we have a POV from is obviously going to end up with her. But how can a guy be so ughhhhh

1. W has random girls over all the time that Vaughn doesn't but should question
2. Vaughn feels uncomfortable when he touches her
3. He wants to have sex with her--fine--but he keeps pressuring her
4. Only thinks about himself
5. Doesn't think about Vaughn's family and the money they need

And all that was bad but then it just got horrible because this guy is just

Ughhhhhhh

Okay so they have an argument because he's
1. Very jealous-okay that's the only reasonable thing you were

But then he's angry about the pictures and he's being an ass about it. After that he admits oh no he cheated on her BUT of course it's her fault. Because if he didn't see the pictures of Oakley and her he wouldn't be so angry and unreasonable. Um excuse me you do that all on your damn own. But what pisses me off the most is the kind of manipulation that he puts in play by antagonizing her. I hate manipulative relationships. They're the kind that aren't obvious bad maybe, but you can tell something is wrong. And everything is twisted.
Oh and let's not forget the worst part. He tells her that they need a way to be closer so he tried to pressure her into having sex with him as if she owes him, and he says that he could have done that with this other girl he cheated on her with but he didn't so she should be greatful.

This is the part where I started screaming at my phone YOU'RE A D**k over and over and incredulously threw my phone on the counter.
Luckily though we have a smart main character. I mean in the beginning she did what W wanted and she was the "perfect" girlfriend. She was already strong spirited and a force of nature, just not when it came to W. and it was so great once she found herself without him.

Note- I wish I could hear Oakley's music, and I loved the way he would test out songs with Vaughn, and the way she wouldn't just settle for what was good. She had actual ideas and knew what was good or bad. No shit. I liked it.

So I'm jumping around oh well. I think what I really liked about this writing was it's ability to make me feel and see everything. Everything was so vivid, but what was different was the clear drained feeling I got while reading the part of the book where Oak is sulking around since his dad is there hogging all the attention and being an ass. I could see his expression and feel his sadness. It was all so well written and I didn't even need to notice because I experienced it. That is something that doesn't happen often.

Of course at the end there had to be some heartbreaking moment cause there always comes the time where everything is happy and the ship is together, then drama splits them apart.
So wtf Claudia and Jim setting up that fake break up. Seriously? That sucked and I knew it was some misunderstanding but jeez that was so out of line and insane. They're people not dolls.

The booked ended too soon like all those contemporaries, but wow was it amazing.

”The good ones put your character to the flame and burn away all the rest of the shit until you come out a better you.”

I HATE CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE which is why this was a huge shocker for me, I went blindly into this book expecting it to be cliche and sappy and it was, but I don’t care, coz it was the good kind of cliche and sappy. You get it? No, okay.
This novel is basically about an ordinary girl who was hired to be the fake girlfriend of a popular singer and both of them ended up falling madly in love together. (Yeah, so unique right? *insert sarcasm here*) but the story itself doesn’t sound as bad as I put it into words.

There are a lot of elements in this book that I just couldn’t articulate, I do admit that there are some cringe worthy moments but I am willing to overlook those rare occassions.
I love both Oakley and Vaughn and I do understand that a lot of readers who had the opportunity to read this book brought out the inner fangirl in all of us. Don’t tell me that you never obsessed over a celebrity and dreamed of him to become your boyfriend *ehem… Zac Efron* coz I did, I remember fangirling over Zac when I was a kid because High School Musical was such a huge hit that time. My mom even went as far as making me a customized school bag with my face and Zac Efron’s on it. HAHAHAHA creepy, right?
This book just reminded me of all those insane fangirl moments and those times I spent inside my room wondering what it feels like to become a celebrity girlfriend and it feels nice to make it come true even by just reading a story partially similar to it.

Maybe I’m a little biased but who the fuck cares? I love this book!! 5 BLAZING STARS

Große Empfehlung an alle.
