It was interesting and the character work was devastatin and real. I feel like I can really relate to Karen in the way that I don't click well with a lot of expectations people have for me being a woman. I think it was hard for me to read at times because I've also been there watching someone's life get more complicated and hurt by their addictions and action and no matter what you do they always end up in the same spot. I think that is was fun and a easy read that had a lot to say about the struggles that comes with being vulnerable and in a creative space that is under a spotlight. I also really enjoyed the transcript format and wish I listened to a audiobook version.
Very unique. So interesting and entertaining.
Such well constructed characters that I thought they were a real band until I googled one of the songs half way through hahah. There are lots of Fleetwood Mac parallels, made clear in the author's acknowledgements.
I imagine this will be a film one day that I look forward to watching. *
* just found out it's being made into a 13 part series with a soundtrack yes!

Audio - 4.75
Had a whole audio cast so I would recommend the audiobook

This actually feels too short? Format doesn’t allow enough depth into…any of these characters, really? Their struggles are inherently interesting, but the beats are so predictable, so by-the-numbers that it was hard to root for anyone. I was intrigued by the omissions (voices of characters who were indisposed, one way or another). For a book about a 70’s band, this felt very soft. Camila and Karen deserved more limelight. If Eddie has no haters, I’m dead. Probably gonna take some time before my next TJR.
Julia being revealed as the interviewer was so fascinating and then…nothing was done about it. Maybe that’s my gripe with this one - the interview format felt more like a hindrance than a boon.
wow. i just finished this book and i’m shocked. it was so so good. tjr just does such a good job of creating complex, developed characters that are easy to relate to and root for. the struggles in this book were so real and raw and i think they came across in a way that shows how complicated and truly difficult they can be. also, the vibe of this book is just so cool. another thing that tjr is really good at. getting you to feel like you are actually in the story and time period. it was so fun and i loved pretending to be a rock and roll star in the 70s. this is my third tjr book that i have read and this is my least favorite, just because i found the first part of the book a little boring. also, i liked the interview format, but it took a bit of time to get used to. overall though, an amazing book that i would recommend to everyone, if only for the quotes(which are absolutely amazing and heartwrenching), and the characters, especially camilla. she is one of my fav novel characters right now
“you have these lines you won’t cross. and suddenly you possess the very dangerous information that you can break the rule and the world won’t instantly come to an end. you’ve taken a big, black, bold line and you’ve made it a little bit gray. and now every time you cross it again, it just gets grayer and grayer until one day you look around and think, There was a line here once, i think”
“no matter who you choose to go down the road with, you’re gonna get hurt. that’s just the nature of caring about someone. no matter who you love, they will break your heart along the way”

One of the most hateable books I’ve ever read. Detestable characters. An entirely false “cool” concept. I thought I’d hate it, I tried to be convinced and yep–I hated it. I’m completely over drug-addled messes of characters. And definitely have no love for people cheating on the spouses they have three children under 5 with. I also think I'm just too familiar with the actual world of classic rock to believe the fake version of it.
