Shaun Bythell has quickly become one of my favorite writers. The 'characters' in his books frustrate and irritate me...mostly Nicky, Eliot and Granny, make me smile...Anna and mom and dad, and of course Captain and make me shake my head...Sandy and his women and most of the other 'regulars'.
I do hope this isn't the last of the Bookshop books as Wigtown feels very comfortable to me now and all the people there have become 'friends'. I want to hear about Shaun's children and wife, know how mom and dad are fairing and sit by the fire and watch Wigtown go by long into the future.

I love Sean Bythell's writing. As a bookseller, I probably love him more than is strictly necessary because I find myself shouting in agreement with 99% of what he says. It is a vindication of my pet peeves writ large and selling well.
Funny, touching and delightful as ever. Long may he curmudgeon onwards.

Absolutely lovely, witty and comforting
These are always fantastic. A fair bit of what it’s actually like to run a bookstore peppered with odd customers and sometimes odder employees.

Picked this up because I needed something funny and lighthearted to read while I was feeling very stressed. This book was exactly that. It's not overtly funny, but curmudgeonly funny. I like thinking of people's simpler lives when mine feels overwhelming. This series of books makes me long to run a small bookshop in the beautiful countryside, even when I know it's not as glamorous as it seems.
