Jack London plays with very interesting concepts here, at times the narrator seems an egoist madman, and at times he seems to make more sense than most, there's something unsettling about the way that the narrator, sentenced to death in a California solitary cell pours his strange thoughts and mental adventures out onto the page,
At times you sympathise with his logic and his mental prowess, and at times you feel just unsettled and unnerved by him.
Gets a bit stodgy at times but is usually saved by an interesting bit in the following chapter.

Finished this a while ago actually... Very good - not really read any other Jack London, but he writes beautifully and with absolute conviction. I remember Chris in the Morning on Northern Exposure reading from Call of the Wild - he could have picked a lot of passages from this one. Unfortunately he ended up on Sex and the City, where he didn't get the opportunity.
