I loved this book! The plot twist at the end of the book was something I did not expect at all!! Can’t wait to continue the series.

"It doesn’t take much for civilized people to become animals."

I recently read the first Atlee Pine book as a TBR jar pick, and I enjoyed it so much that I decided to make the rest of the series a priority. A Minute To Midnight is book number two, and without doubt another action-packed and thrilling ride. I might have enjoyed the first book a tiny bit more (probably due to the Grand Canyon setting), but this sequel still more than delivered for me. If you like an intense FBI thriller with plenty of action and danger, this series is an excellent choice! I still can't believe it took me this long to finally pick up one of his books, but I already know David Baldacci will end up appearing on my list of most read authors of 2024. His writing is extremely addictive, and he writes the type of thriller that is exactly my cup of tea. Sure, things can be said about the credibility of the plot and there are parts that are without a doubt over the top... But if you look at the story purely on an entertainment level, A Minute To Midnight doesn't have a boring minute in it. The plot itself focuses on two different cases: the historical kidnapping case involving Atlee and her twin sister Mercy, and a murder investigation in the present happening in the same town Atlee's sister was kidnapped. I enjoyed how the two cases were woven into the plot, and neither overshadowed the other. One of the reasons this series works so well has a lot to do with its main characters though. I loved the main character Atlee Pine and her 'sidekick' Carol Blum in the first book, and they truly shine in this sequel as well. Their banter is hilarious! There were also quite some shocking reveals about Atlee's past, and I simply can't wait to see what the next book has in store.

If I could, I’d probably rate this one 3-1/2 stars. The plot was intricate enough I suppose. But the dialogue struck me as a bit simple. With that in mind, it wasn’t my favorite Baldacci book but it was entertaining enough.

Enjoyable, Fast-paced Read

David Baldacci has put out another action based mystery that starts somewhat slowly but continues picking up the pace throughout the story. While I've enjoyed most of his books, a couple recently did seem to be contrived and lacking in believability, but this story was more in line with his better novels, and had only a couple moments where I was shaking my head with disbelief - which is actually above average for novels of this genre!

Overall enjoyable and engaging - recommended for readers who enjoyed the first Atlee Pine novel.

First one of the series that I have read and I enjoyed it very much. I need to read the first one to get a bit more background, but I like that there was a mystery solved and another mystery still to finish. The details about Andersonville were interesting but made me not at all want to visit yet another Confederate theme park. Atlee Pine finding out more than she might have wanted to know about her family gave quite a twist to the story.
