Absolutely such a good read. Definitely has triggering moments so take breaks if necessary but 100% a good read. Would be great for book club!!

Great book!

I’ll be starting this book with my students, but wanted to read it first. So glad I get to share this beautiful story with students! Great writing and real characters whom anyone can relate to. Very relevant and hopefully can help erase the stigma of mental health issues and the importance of getting help! Very poignant!

Beautiful and at times raw prose about a teen coming to terms with conflicting expectations in her life and family.

This is truly a great book. This book carries themes that seem universal if you have ever grown up as a child of an immigrant. You really feel for the main character and her struggles. At times, she feels self-centered but this is okay because she is a teenager and her feelings are legitimate. As an adult and as an parent, my heart went out to the mother, who is just trying her best to protect her daughter. I cried with the main character as she went through her struggles but then also laughed out loud. There were conversations between the mother and her daughter that just felt so close to home, that I couldn't help but feel as if I was looking into the mirror at myself and my own mother. I definitely recommend this book.

A beautiful read. Heartbreaking and raw.

A little overly long but good at capturing the teenage feelings before college, mental health, and the Hispanic community.

I know lots of teens who will relate to this prickly, misunderstood protagonist. The story feels fresh and original.
