I knew that C. L. Clark is good. She's also the only person who could write an anti-hero so beautifully.
It was all I could ask from a narrative down to how dedicated Rictus was to Ambessa throughout it all; two of them together against the odds. It was fascinating to see how Ambessa kept ignoring reality to further her ambition throughout it all.
The only issue I have is unrelated to the book itself. It would have been good to see this narrative as part of the Arcane universe because it contains some information crucial to understanding the second season. I hope C. L. Clark gets to write more for them though.

only thing that got me through this was ellen thomas' voice for the audiobook. she did an amazing job with what she was given - this book could've been cut in half & still remained the same. the last few chapters were good but honestly most of the book was a pain to sit through.
