This was a book that I was not expecting which just blew me away. I knew nothing about it other than that it was getting rave reviews, and that it was to do with the brides of Dracula. The story follows a young and religious young girl, who after the slaughter of her village makes a deal with a beautiful man who saves her. She becomes his wife, and the book chronicles their lives over the centuries as she comes to the realisation of who this man is, and how he has slowly crushing her in his subtle manipulations and control. This book is dark and incredibly sexy, as the couple bring other people into their relationship.

This is an amazing portrayal of emotional manipulation, and how a woman finds a way to break the bonds that are smothering her into a future of independence. I also adored the relationships between the other characters in the book, and seeing how they all suffered under tyranny, and worked together to escape it. This book is incredibly short and can be read in a single sitting, but I would highly recommend it.

I absolutely DEVOURED this book. The story is so well written and so different from most other dark romance/fantasy/gothic books which I really loved. The diary/letter format telling the story from what happened then to now is one of my favorite ways to enjoy a book. Very dark seductive and atmospheric!

a queer dracula retelling and some of the most stunning prose ever??? yeah absolutely. 4.5

✨4✨

This was one of those books in which I experienced reading this with a physical copy (the bookishbox version) definitely added to the experience; the whole page setup, gothic decorations and cathedral windows just put me straight into the mood while reading it.
- It added so much for me that I found it difficult to focus on the story when I tried to read it on Kindle when I couldn't bring around my physical copy..

please check tws before reading this book!

finally a book about vampires that I loved

i absolutely devoured this - loved it !

the writing is so so lyrical and elegant - exactly what i love reading
and it is more character driven than plot driven, so again, right up my alley

the idea of this book looked so interesting and the execution was per-fect

this is also the first time i read about polyamourous relationships and it was very well done
the way the relationship turns into an unhealthy one and he starts showing his narcissist side was also very impressive - it felt like I was also in the grasp of the Lord

i now plan on reading every single book that has st gibson’s name on it

also, i have the fairyloot special edition which is stunning and has additional content that i loved
dark medium-paced

My favorite thing about this book was how well the atmosphere was set. It really felt like you were in the gothic novel.
