Enjoyed for the most part, lots of scheming. The queerness of it didn’t feel like the focus which was nice, it was more about this insane situation they were in.. felt appreciative of that in a way. Not sure why it didn’t tickle my pickle to much of an extent but still a nice raunchy read.

Questo libro esplora alla perfezione e a fondo le ferite che l’abuso psicologico infligge sulla mente.
Lui (che nel libro non viene mai riferito con un nome) salva la protagonista da morte certa, trasformandola in vampiro, quando lei è molto giovane e desiderosa di vivere, rendendola devota al punto che lei lo seguirebbe ovunque andasse. Questa sua posizione di potere nei confronti della protagonista è la fondamenta che darà inizio all’abuso, perché lei si sente in debito con lui, e non vuole contrariarlo.
Lui è anche più vecchio di millenni e ha molta più esperienza nella vita da vampiro, lei crede di non potere sopravvivere senza di lui.
E poi lei lo ama, e quando ami la persona che ti abusa, è difficilissimo uscirne, cerchi di trovare scuse e addossarti colpe che non sono tue, tutto per provare e a salvare ciò che resta del vostro rapporto, tutto perché un tempo eri felice e pensi sempre che lui potrebbe tornare a essere quello che era, ma la verità è che lui è un mostro e lo è sempre stato, semplicemente prima indossava una bella maschera.
Il libro racconta di tutto questo attraverso gli occhi della vittima, sei in prima fila testimone, e fa rabbrividire.
Molte scene mi mettevano i brividi perché la protagonista Constanta (chiamata così da lui, neanche il suo nome le appartiene più) arriva a pensare cose orribili su se stessa e sulla sua situazione, tutto per cercare di giustificare, ancora e ancora, il dolore e gli abusi che suo marito infligge su di lei e sui suoi altri consorti, Magdalena e Alexi.
Devo ammetere che ho iniziato questo libro soprattutto perché sapevo della storia d’amore di Constanta e Magdalena, e se ci fosse un libro su di loro dopo che si sono liberate del marito abusatore, lo leggerei subito. Loro due sono le stelle di questo libro.
Alexi mi è piaciuto come personaggio anche se viene introdotto verso la fine, però il fatto che sia un ragazzino non me lo fa shippare con le altre due (anche se tecnicamente sono tutti sposati), soprattutto perché Constanta si riferisce a lui come a un figlio e a se stessa come madre quando parla di lui.
Comunque, vittime che uccidono i loro abusatori >>>>
Le scelte di trama belle. Sono veramente felice che il libro sia finito bene, dimostra che nonostante gli abusi, le vittime possono e meritano di essere felici. Ero spaventata, temevo che finisse male, invece ho tirato un sospiro di sollievo.
La scelta della seconda persona per narrare, come se la protagonista stesse scrivendo una lettera proprio al marito, l’ho trovata molto interessante, ti fa sentire tutto il dolore e la rabbia appieno. Però è stato un po’ difficile abituarmi, per questo non ho messo cinque stelle piene, è stato un po’ faticoso leggere.

This book explores perfectly and deeply the wounds psychological abuse leaves on the mind.
He (who in the book is never referred to with a name) saves the protagonist from certain death, transforming her into a vampire, when she's young and wishes to live, making her so devoted she would follow him wherever he went. This position of power he has over the protagonist is the starting point of the abuse, because she feels like she's in debt with him, and doesn't want to displease him. He's also millennials older than her and has much more experience on life as vampire, she doesn't think she can survive without him.
And she also loves him, and when you love the person who abuses you, it's very difficult to escape, you try to make excuses and to take blames for that are not yours, anything to try and salvage what remains of your relationship, all because once you were happy and you think he could come back to be who he was, but the truth is he's a monster and always was, before he simply wore a beautiful mask.
The book tells all this from the victim point of view, you're a first row testimony, and it's chilling.
Many scenes gave me chills because the protagonist Constanta (named by him, not even her name is hers anymore) thinks horrible things about herself and the situation, all to try and justify, again and again, the pain and the abuse her husband inflicts upon her and his other two consorts, Magdalena and Alexi.
I have to admit I started this book because I knew about Constanta and Magdalena's love story, and if there were a book about them after they got rid of the abusive husband I would read it right now. They're the stars of this book.
I liked Alexi as a character even though he gets introduced toward the end, but the fact that he's young stops me from shipping him with the other two women (even though they're technically all married), especially because Constanta refers to him as a son and herself as a mother when talking about him.

Good plot choices. I'm so happy the book had a happy ending, it shows that despite the abuse, victims can and deserve to be happy. I was scared, I thought it was gonna end bad, but I breathed a sigh of relief.
I found the choice of the second person for the narration, as if it's the protagonist herself writing a letter to the husband, really interesting, it makes you feel all the pain and anger at its fullest. But it was a bit difficult to get used to, that's why I didn't put five stars, it was a bit hard to read.

The only good part of this book was Dracula finally getting shanked.
I’m not sure what I was expecting… but I’m not sure that was it.
