I was so excited for this one because the premise sounded so interesting but I just couldn't get into it ... so I listened to audiobook alongside reading in order to get through it - and I was bored and confused. There are a ton of timelines. Each chapter is usually about the main character travelling back in time to be with his future wife - he meets her when she is 6 and he is 30 something - it's ... unique to say the least. But the constant jumping between timelines gave me a headache. And I also didn't care for any of the characters. And when the main character dies it felt flat and boring because I wasn't invested enough to care. It was just a chore and a drag and it's a shame because the premise sounded really interesting.

3.5 the story itself was engaging and interesting, but there were some events that didn't seem necessary to me. Also I'm still not sure how I feel about Henry almost exclusively visiting Claire as a young girl and how Claire just waits for him her entire life.

brilliant plot! but honestly the words and the way they were constructed fail to impart the magic this story actually wants to scream out. Poor writing and unnecessary characters. I wish the writer had refrained from putting too many shades in the protagonists. It wasn't needed. Somehow at the end of the book you fail to understand Henry at age 27 (while he was with Ingrid. The plot and the whole of idea of time travel as a base of a love story is what keeps you hooked.

It got laborious with the comings and goings. I wanted him to stay put in one place long enough for the story to evolve. I guess it was the choppiness that bothered me. I'd also heard so much hype about the book and movie. Intriguing book premise, but couldn't get through it. Maybe I'll try it again some time.

all the servants are happy, the 'marxist' is obnoxious.
time is set and can't be changed, so don't bother. predestination -- how WASPy.
on the plus side, some people have to steal and break the law.
death in a hunting accident is always cool, especially when it's a bunch of rich twats hunting for sport instead of hungry people hunting for food.

Well, that was a journey and a half. Did I actually dislike this as much as some of the course books of the same rating…probably not. However, I really really didn’t like this and for several reasons.
1. I wanted to like it so much. Miss Butt I would trust you with my life but evidently not with book taste. My high expectations definitely resulted in this falling so short
2. This book refuses to accept the creepy and paedophilic nature of its own existence. It is so uncomfortable at so many points and yet it’s weirdness is apparently ignored in favour of the plot.
3. It’s approach to many of the themes it touches on is so insulting. From its use of derogatory language towards disabled people and the queer community to its non chalante approach to the concept of rape (a word used as a synonym for eagerness in many cases and then not addressed in cases where consent is actually not confirmed). This adds to the uncomfy nature of the book and honestly made me want to DNF it throughout
4. The concept is so good, the execution is awful- I wanted so badly to love this idea of spontaneous time travel but the way it is used, and the sexual focus of the story just made it fall short
5. There is no character development. Literally how? you are focusing on the same group of people across all of there lives- why are they so boring?
