A book to re-read countless times and reflect about the things that are written. A guide on how to be a good person, how to live a life in ease and focusing on your work and duty while not forgetting your human essence. Accepting the nature of things and not letting yourself get affected by meaningless external situations.
Everyone should read this at least once.

I liked the book and the style of Marcus Aurelius' writing. He had so many wise things to say and I like the general idea of stoicism, but I find it really interesting how he was talking about being a good person, and not being violent and accepting others. Yet much of what he spent his life on was wars, persecution of christians and other not so nice things :) I don't know all that much about The Emperor, but I definitely want to learn more about him.

I received an electronic ARC of this book via NetGalley.

This is an extremely informative and accessible translation of an important book, but unfortunately I have come to the conclusion that I don't particularly like Marcus Aurelius.

The translation is easy to read, clear, and the annotations and footnotes are extensive and extremely enlightening. As a reader with very little knowledge of the context of this book going in, I found both the introduction and the endnotes to each chapter greatly enriched my experience.

My complaints about Meditations itself (not this translation and its notes) are a little bit unfair in light of the fact that it was never originally intended for publication. Ultimately, the philosophical notes of a Roman emperor are informative but not necessarily completely relevant to a reader today. It's an important text, though, and worth reading.

I agree with a lot of what he wrote but just as much disagreed. I thought my beliefs would align more with stoicism but it really isn’t the philosophy for me. Perhaps, i should have not finished it in a couple of hours and spent more time thinking, but i found it quite unnecessary. (I will not be rating this for obvious reasons)
