The writing is bad. So so many slurs, slut shaming, body shaming, etc. Besides her grandmother, the main character didn’t say a single positive thing about any other character. Boobie and poopie were used so many times.

I can see why some people aren't big fans of this series but I am astounded that so many people hate it so much. I can agree that the writing can be rather juvenile and some of the content is a little risque but I think that it is a pretty good book.

Zoey was an average teenage girl until one day a tracker comes to her school and marks her. Zoey is instantly cast out by her peers and family so she turns to the only other person that she can trust, her grandmother. As she approaches her grandmother's house she sent to the spirit realm where the Nyx Goddess tells her that she has extraordinary powers. Once in the house of night, Zoey discovers that she must use her powers to conquer the evil that lays within the schools walls.

I GIVE THIS BOOK 3 1/2 STARS!!!!!

The book had quite an interesting start and seemed to get straight to the action, it was pretty fast paced in the beginning. Zoey is not your average heroine, She immediately stands up for herself when faced with the antagonist which made me like the book more. The romance on the other hand, kind of happened to fast for my liking, as soon as she 'officially' meets her love interest, it seems within 1 or 2 more scenes that included him, they are already together. There were also some scenes that didn't really matter which seemed to just go on and on ((For example the first scene when the high priestess Nefert guides her could have been cut down a little, ditto some of the school sessions, like her Equestrians study class, I mean whats the deal with that horse? It didn't play a key role in the story)) Other than that, I quite enjoyed the story but didn't get as sucked in as I thought I was ((That's what happens when you have such high expectations)). Well I hope the next one will be better. I recommend this book to those who love a good young adult book where the heroine kicks butt!!! Rating: 15 and over cause some curse words and 'sexual' content.

If you liked this, You'll love: "Betrayed: House of night 2" By: P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast, "Vampire Academy" By: Michelle Mead, "Harry Potter and the sorcerers stone" By: J.K. Rowling ((If your wondering 'why Harry Potter?' see my reading progress below for more info))

This is now the third time I have read this book.
I read it first in high school and then again earlier this year just after my brother died.
And now again for a reading group.
I’m happy to say that I still love this story as much now as I did the first time I read it.
I can’t wait to finish the series and get on with the newest trilogy in the series
