Fun, Fun, FUN!
"Yes, well, I am occasionally given to fits of coughing."
"Really?"
"Once I was even rendered mute."
"Mute? I can't imagine."
"Neither could I," Caroline said quite honestly, "until it happened."
Laughed out loud about great aunt Mumblethorpe.
After surviving a series of awful guardians, Caroline decides to run away after shooting the son of her latest guardian when he tries to rape her at his father's instructions. However, while running away she is kidnapped by Blake who thinks she is a spy.

Delightful characters that had me laughing and sighing and wishing all the best for them. Perfection
Adorbs. Though I was probably less impressed by this one since I read it almost immediately after Revealed by Kate Noble and it has the whole espionage thing going on there too. Still, a great fun read.
If you want a non-serious, light, fun read then this one isn't too bad, but Julia Quinn has so many other, better ones out there and you can do better. Although it won't be painful to read, it did leave a LOT to be desired.
Normally I love anything by Julia Quinn but this wasn't a hit for me. I mostly skimmed through it. For a book that was rather long, I felt the romance was rushed and lacked proper development, it was a lot of back and forth and push and pull but not in a satisfying way? Also, Caroline bordered more and more on the annoying side and Blake was just... Well, lacking development? His dialogue wasn't all that great. Some of the actions done in the book I couldn't figure out why the characters did them (like why the attendants looovvveeddd Caroline so much that they starved everyone else?? she literally said like 2 words to them) and also how his sister was like super okay after finding everything out and not more freaked out by everything. Also how James was like super amused by them and always conveniently played cupid by disappearing and always leaving them alone and then exploding on them and leaving immediately for London without word when he's been this super chill, laid-back character all this time. Also how Blake kept going back and forth between "no, I can't have you, I won't try to ruin you" AND IN THE NEXT BREATH he's kissing her or hauling her off into his room or undressing her completely (IN PUBLIC ON THE BEACH) and almost going all the way then being like "wait actually no, we shouldn't" and then she's like "fine" and tries to walk away and then he's like "no wait i changed my mind we should" ???? it was literally just him going back and forth back and forth. Also Caroline interrupted him so damn much I don't think he even managed to actually talk very much other than to shout angry one-liners or sentences at everyone. It gave me fanfic vibes if I'm being honest, but not like great fanfic that sticks in your mind forever, just a light read to occupy the time.

3/3.5 stars.
The biggest draw of this book is the humor. The things that Caroline gets herself into are ridiculous & silly. It's definitely an easy beach read with a little treason & intrigue thrown in to give the book a plot. The characters interrupted each other a ridiculous amount & Blake shouted way more than necessary. It was a fun dip into historical romance that really was barely historical romance.

Clearly an early novel from Quinn. While it was enjoyable and has a lot of her humor in it, the story was a little disjointed and didn't flow properly. Still really fun and worth giving a shot if you want to read her entire backlog.

This was a really fun read. The dialog between all the characters was smart and funny.
