I reread this series and remembered I hated how the trilogy ended.
Janie gets a raw deal, her home life is awful and then she finds out she can’t really treat or control side effects from dream catching she’ll lose her sight and use of her hands!?! Really? You made her life rough enough already. The only silver lining is Cabe?
It’s off the bat mentioned she’s going to try and help take down a sexual predator at her high school. I always found it weird back then and now that her first assignment with the cops is handling THAT mostly on her own. It feels exploitative. Because of her dream catching ability. And yeah it’s magical realism but still felt really really gross the cops found out her abilities and were like “oh perfect! A new Martha Stubin!” Her one bright spot in life is having Cabe in her life and Carrie is in and out of the book but not really present as her friend at all.
The idea is interesting and it’s a quick read but the content during and before the party is very very triggering to survivors of rape and sexual assault.
