Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

One of the most poorly structured and written books I've ever read. At one point, we're reading dialogue of some villagers being verbally narrated by the monster being verbally narrated by Frankenstein being transcribed by some other guy being read by his sister in a letter.

Every character has exactly the same voice, regardless of if they are speaking directly to another character, writing a letter, transcribing someone else speaking etc.

I got to page 60 and had to start skimming through. I couldn't invest more time and energy into it than that.

"It had then filled me with a sublime ecstasy, that gave wings to the soul, and allowed it to soar from the obscure world to light and joy. The sight of the awful and majestic in nature had indeed always the effect of solemnising my mind and causing me to forget the passing cares of life."

Amazing book!
Did feel like the ending felt flat but besides that I absolutely loved every word.

Interesting and very different than what I was expecting. Sad boy Frankenstein and sad boy monster. I don't think it quite holds up but I think it was worth a read.
