This was fantastic! The first four books in the X-Wing series were written by Michael Stackpole and, while entertaining enough, were not outstanding. This one, though... Allston absolutely nails it. The characters are interesting and distinct; the action is well-plotted and executed; the humor is spot-on. The whole thing is very much in the spirit of the original Star Wars trilogy in a way that so many books and movies since had failed to capture.
5 stars because I have absolutely no complaints. The best Star Wars book I've read. I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

[reread] Great intro to new characters, and excellent development for the characters Stackpole took point on. Allston's humour and integration of real social issues/relationships into the Star Wars EU is particularly good.
